SAUGERTIES DEMS TAP TOWN JUSTICE WENDY RICKS FOR SECOND TERM

Atour caucus on Monday, June 21st, Saugerties Democrats unanimously and enthusiastically nominated Wendy Ricks for re-election to a second four-year term as Town Justice.

“When Wendy broke through that infamous glass ceiling four years ago to become the first woman Town Justice in Saugerties’ history, she did so with tremendous bi-partisan support,” said Mike Harkavy, chair of the Saugerties Democratic Committee. “People respect her intellect, experience, judgement and temperament, and our community has been well-served by those impressive attributes.”

Justice Ricks was nominated by Donn Avallone, who called her uniquely qualified for this position. “Her experience includes work in both the District Attorney’s office and the County Attorney’s office, service as past president of the Ulster County Bar Association, plus twenty years of legal experience in private practice,” said Avallone. “In addition, Wendy has a background as a certified mediator along with both knowledge and sensitivity of how mental health issues, addiction and family dysfunction can be contributing factors in many of the criminal offenses which come before the Court.”

“I’ve known Wendy Ricks both professionally and personally for many years, and she is highly respected in the legal community for her intelligence, experience and unquestioned integrity, said Liz Krisjanis who seconded the nomination. “We are lucky to have someone of her caliber serving our community.”

Wendy Ricks, a life-long resident of Saugerties, lives in the Village with her husband Mark Colligan, a well-known local chiropractor who has owned and operated the Saugerties Chiropractic Center for over twenty years, and their two children Aidan and Meghan.

“I am honored by your trust and confidence,” said Justice Ricks after accepting the nomination. “For me, serving as Town Justice is a way of giving back to a community that taught me the values of friendship, fairness, honesty and hard work. I firmly believe in equal justice for all who come before the court, and I will continue to do my all to ensure that people are treated fairly and with respect.”

The election for Town Justice, along with other County, State and Federal offices, will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd. Wendy has also received the Independence Party endorsement.
